Washington: Steve Bannon, an old ally of former President Donald Trump, surrendered to the Federal Authority on Monday to face allegations of insult after opposing court calls from the home committee investigating the January rebellion in the Capitol.
Bannon is detained Monday morning and is expected to appear in court later in the afternoon.
The 67-year-old was charged on Friday on two allegations of criminal insults – one for refusing to appear for the Congress deposition and the other because they refused to provide documents in response to the Committee’s court call.
The indictment came as the second witness to be expected, the former Chief of Staff of White House Mark Meadows, opposed his own court call from the committee on Friday and as Trump had increased his legal battle to hold documents and testimonies about the rebellion and testimony.
If the house chooses to hold the meadow, the recommendation will also be sent to the Ministry of Justice for the possibility of charges.
Officials in democratic and republic administration have been held with insults by Congress, but criminal charges for insults are very rare.
The charges against Bannon came after many Trump administrative officials – including demand and demands of the Bannon from Congress over the past five years with a slight consequence, including during an inquiry of impeachment.
President Barack Obama’s administration also refused to demand two officials who opposed the demands of the Congress.
The charges said Bannon did not communicate with the committee in any way since he received PUPS on September 24 to October 7 when his lawyer sent a letter, seven hours after the document was due.
Bannon, who works in the White House at the beginning of the Trump government and currently serves as host of the “war room” podcast who thinks conspiracy, is a private citizen who “refused to appear testimony as required by PUPS,” said the indictment.
When Bannon refused to appear to deposit in October, his lawyer said the former Trump advisor was directed by lawyers for Trump quoting the executive rights not to answer questions.
