Nagpur: As expected, the case of avascular necrosis (AVN) or bone death in patients-restored covid increases.
The doctor saw more patients after the second wave of AVN, but they said the number would grow further.
“The Orthopedic GMCH Department currently has 2 AVN patients and one of them is health workers recovering from Covid-19.
Both use steroid therapy during their covid treatment.
But, this is just the beginning,” said Dr.
Mohn Faizal, head of the GMCH orthopedic department.
“This patient comes from the first wave.
The use of steroids is more rampant in the second wave and patients who receive more steroids will begin to deal with AVN anytime between 6 to 18 months after recovery.
More cases will come from rural and semi-urban areas,” He said.
Anticipating this, GMC has started a special clinic for AVN patients every Monday at number 65 OPD.
Here, the expert doctor examined patients who recovered from Covid-19 and suffered hip joint pain.
The hip joint replacement surgery is AVN’s final drug.

“I personally see 5 to 6 AVN patients every day and at least 3 to 4 of them caused by steroids.
A month earlier, this number is almost not 1 or 2 per day.
The cause is alcoholism or sickle cell,” said Dr Babhulkar.
“We are a referral center, we get more AVN patients who are called in the entire Central India.
But, overall too, the number grows and will grow.
The good news is that you can pass the crucial hip joint replacement operation if your AVN is detected at the initial stage , “he convinced.
If it is detected in zero or the first stage, drug treatment can order bone death.
In the second and third stages, it requires a surgical correction and in the fourth stage, no less than hip joint replacement.
