Istanbul: Turkish authorities hold a boat carrying more than 200 Afghan migrants in the Aegean Sea to Europe, Turkish air letters and international organizations for migration to say on Wednesday.
The migrants are believed to be on their way to Italy, said the coast guard official.
The majority of 231 migrants on the ship came from Afghanistan while several others came from Syria, Iran, Eritrea and Pakistan, added the official.
The coast guard detained two Turkish citizens directed the boat and drove migrants to the center of deportation in the West Turkish city Ayvacik.
In the past few weeks Turkey faced a wave of entry of Afghan migrants, crossing from the eastern border with Iran, amid rising violence in Afghanistan.
Turkish authorities held around 1,500 migrants last week.
