Istanbul: Taliban has asked Turkey to operate Kabul Airport but there has been no decision, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday.
“The Taliban has submitted a request for us to operate Kabul Airport.
We have not made a decision about this problem,” he said at a press conference at the Istanbul Ataturk Airport before leaving for a trip to Bosnia.
He added: “We will make a decision after administration (in Afghanistan) clearly.” Erdogan said the Taliban meeting which lasted more than three hours occurred at the Turkish Embassy in Kabul, without saying when the meeting took place.
“If necessary, we will have the opportunity to hold such a meeting again.” The President added that the evacuation of Turkish troops from Kabul, which began on Wednesday, was underway.
He cursed the attack on Thursday.
Turkey’s prospect operates Hamid Karzai International Airport after the withdrawal of NATO troops first grew up in June but seemed to have passed when the Taliban took Kabul on August 15.
