Istanbul: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has spoken with the leader of the United Arab Emirates De-Facto, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohammed bin Zayed, by telephone, Erdogan’s office said on Monday night, in a sign of relieving tensions between countries.
Both discuss state relations and their regional problems, according to a statement from the Turkish presidency.
The statement did not say when the conversation took place.
The UAE state-run news agency said the leaders “reviewed the prospect of strengthening relations between the two countries in a way that served their mutual interests and their two people.” The call came two weeks after Erdogan hosted an UAE security official and discussed investment in Turkey.
UAE’s national security adviser Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s journey was the highest level public visit by an Emirati official to Turkey for years.
The two countries have seen their relationship influenced by regional tensions, including conflict in Libya, where UAE and Turkey have supported the opposite parties in recent years.
Turkey has been in the past few months to relax its tension with a number of Arab countries, such as Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
In addition to UAE and Bahrain, they have supported Ally Qatar Turkey’s blockade, leading Turkey to increase their support.
The dispute was completed earlier this year with the agreement signed by Saudi.
Turkey and Gulf and Egypt countries have also clashed over Turkish support for Muslim Brotherhood, which according to the Arab regime is a threat.
