Ankara: Turkey has tightened its security with Iran in an effort to stop the entry of refugees from Afghanistan, said media reports on Sunday.
Ankara strengthened security measures at its borders with Iran to stop illegal crossings, especially from Afghanistan who escaped the Taliban who had taken over the main city and province, said Arian News Afghanistan.
On Saturday, the Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Root visited the 295 kilometer length border with Iran where the modular concrete wall was being built, Arian News added.
When the Taliban increased violence in Afghanistan, hundreds of Afghans had entered Turkey in the past few days.
UNHCR, the UN refugee body on Saturday said that it was feared by the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
When a broad battle intensifies, the United Nations in Afghanistan continues to call for a permanent ceasefire and settlement negotiated for the interests of the people of Afghanistan, UNHCR said in a statement.
The refugee body is worried about the impact of conflict in women and girls.
About 80 percent of almost a quarter of a million Afghans were forced to escape since the end of May were women and children.
Nearly 4,00,000 was forced from their homes since the beginning of the year, joining 2.9 million Afghans of Afghans had been internally displaced throughout the country at the end of 2020, UNHCR added.
The majority of Afghans who are forced to escape remain in the country, as close as possible with the battle will allow.
Since the beginning of this year, almost 1,20,000 Afghans have escaped from rural areas and provincial cities to Kabul Province.
