Istanbul: Turkey President Tayyip Erdogan slammed the 10th ambassador of the country, including the United States, Germany and France, for their calls for the liberation of Mermawan Osman Kavala, said Turkey should not be their host, in comments reported on Thursday.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the ambassadors on Tuesday for what he said was the “irresponsible” statement called for a fair and fast resolution for the Cavala case.
He has been in prison since the end of 2017 without being punished.
Kavala was released last year the costs associated with the 2013 national protest, but the verdict was canceled this year and combined on charges in other cases related to the coup attempt in 2016.
In a statement this week, the Ambassador called Turkey to secure Swift Kavala to release.
“I told our foreign minister: We cannot have the luxury of hosting this place in our country.
Is it for you to give Turkey lessons like that? Who do you think?” Erdogan was quoted as a notice to reporters on his plane back from a trip to Africa.
He rejects any suggestion that Turkish justice is not independent.
“Our judiciary is one of the best examples of independence,” said the Haberturk News website reported it.
Rights rights groups said the Cavala case was a symbol of the crackdown on differences of opinion under Erdogan.
European Human Rights Court (ECHR) called for a direct release of Kavala at the end of 2019 because of the lack of reasonable suspicion that he committed a violation, decided that his detention served him.
The European Council said it would start the violation process against Turkey if Kavala was not released.
Turkey will be the second country where the violation process has been launched.
Other parties for the statement of ambassadors are Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and New Zealand.
The next hearing in the case against Kavala, which has denied all the allegations, and the other will be held on November 26.
