Ankara: Twelve people died and 26 others were injured when the bus carrying migrants fell in East Turkey on Saturday night, reported local media, quoting authorities in Van Prefecture.
Among the dead is 11 migrants and someone who helps regulate their illegal transportation, the authorities are quoted on Sunday.
What was injured was taken to the hospital and the bus owner was arrested, they added.
Located near the Turkish East border with Iran, the city of Van is used as a crossing point for migrants on their long journey to reach Europe, with many who come from Afghanistan.
In July 2020, a boat carrying up to 60 migrants sank on the van lake.
