Turkish journalists imprisoned before the court for Erdogan’s insults

Istanbul: A famous Turkish journalist has been imprisoned waiting for the court because the president who insulted Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said his lawyer.
Sedef Kabas was arrested after he quoted the saying on television and social media referring to the ox.
Under the law of insult, tens of thousands have been demanded to target Erdogan since he became president in 2014 after more than a decade as prime minister.
His lawyer, Ogur Poyraz, tweeted that he was officially arrested during the appearance in court in Istanbul on Saturday.
The judge accepted the prosecution argument that he made a risk of flight.
Kabas, 53, has held a series of high profile TV shows during a career covering three decades.
He was detained by police at his home in Istanbul early Saturday following his remarks in Tele 1 and Twitter.
The government figures condemned Kabas while opposition politicians defended their rights to freedom of speech.
“Insult the elected president our country with ugly expression and vulgar is actually an attack on the National Will,” Tweeted Numan Kurtulmus, deputy head of the ruling party.
The leader of the opposition party Meral Aksener uses tags for Kabas support.
“This mindset will go and justice will return to Turkey,” he wrote.
The cost of insulting the president brings a period of prison term for a maximum of four years.
Since 2014, more than 35,500 cases have been submitted about Erdogan’s insults, generating nearly 13,000 beliefs, according to the numbers of the Ministry of Justice.
Turkey has been under international pressure to change the law.
In October, the European Human Rights Court said the freedom of expression of a man was violated when he was detained in 2017 under the law of humiliation.
