Turtle Olive Ridley’s nesting season starts here

Ramanathapuram: Two Nest of Ridley’s Olive Turtle with a total of 244 eggs found in a separate nest in the coastal village of Chathiram, marked the beginning of the annual nesting season in the Mansnar Teluk Marine National Park.
While one nest was seen on Thursday, the other was seen on Friday.
This marks a delayed start to the annual nest season.
The egg was taken to a turtle hatching place in the village.
“There has been a delay of year 10 to 15 days at the beginning of the nesting season olive Ridley Turtles.
It starts in mid-December 2016 and 2017.
It was the end of December 2018, the second week of January 2019 and the following week in 2020 and 15 January last year.
This year, it was delayed further to 12 days until January 27, “G Venkatesh, a forest range officer for the reach of Mandapam, to Ti.
Mandapam Range is the largest nesting place for soft sea giants on the south coast of Tamil Nadu, followed by Valinokkam in the Tuticorin district which also comes under the Gulf of Mannar Marine National Park.
The range officer connects the delay in the start of the nesting season for changes in climate conditions in the sea, including water flow and temperature, among other factors that have not been confirmed.
While the annual nest (laying eggs) first from mid-December to March, the delay at the beginning of nesting was also delayed the end of the nest with the last batch of turtles.
The last turtle to put his eggs in the range of Mandapam last year was at the end of April.

The department has deployed 10 personnel to watch at nesting points at night, collecting eggs, taking them to hatching, guard them until the hatchman was born and released them at sea.
The Ministry of Forestry’s personnel hopes that this year’s nesting season will also last longer than the previous year.
