Tusker Stray in Puja Pandal Durga, 24 Injuries

Hazaribag: A Tusker deviated from his flock and entered Durga Puja Marquee in Daroo in Jharkhand created panic among worshipers, around 24 who were injured in the raid that occurred later, a forest official said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred during Sandhya Aarti (night prayer) at around 8:30 a.m.
at Marquee at Daroo Chowk in the Hazaribag district on the second day of the festival on Tuesday, the official said.
Tusker, who has trampled to death of four people in Hazaribagh Regency for the past 30 hours, has lost the flock of 22 elephants and reached Puja Pandal, Division Forest Officer Hazaribag West Division, R N Mishra told PTI.
The presence of elephants created panic among around 2,000 residents and villagers who created Stampede when they run helter skelter for safety, he said.
A member of the Daroo Puja committee, Ranjit Sinha said that in a pandal, the wild elephant looked worried and ran towards the village of Bharajo before taking a man and his son from the ground and dropping them.
Both were rushed to hospitals in Hazaribagh where they underwent treatment.
Tusker while retreating also destroyed around six houses in the villagers and also damaged the walls of the closest building limit, said Mishra.
Daroo Forest Ranger Vijay Singh said that forest officials had information that one single elephant, which has caused panic in the Katkamdag and Demotand forest potatoes at NH 33, has entered Daroo from Dighwar forests and present at NH 100.
The department has tried to divert its movements.
Daroo is located about 25 km from the Hazaribag District Headquarters at NH 100 on Jalan Hazaribag-Bagodar.
Mishra said, “We have reminded all the foresters about this special elephant who has created chaos within 30 km of Hazaribag City and killed four people, including two women and members of Birhor Tribe”.
He said the forest department had formed several teams of experts and directed them to learn the behavior of evil elephants.
Hazaribag Deputy Commissioner Aditya Kumar Anand said he had directed the district forest department officials concerned to find out several ways and means to load this threat.
He also directed them to distract them.
