TVM loses in a smart city challenge

Thiruvananthapuram: The city failed to reach the top ten in the ‘Nurting Neighborhood Challenge’ organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (Mohua).
The ministry on Wednesday announced 10 cities winners for challenges, in collaboration with the Bernard Van Leer (BVLF) Foundation and the World Technical Partner of the Indian Institute Resources.
The challenge is a three-year gradual initiative aimed at forming an early childhood environment in Indian cities.
A list of winning cities also includes Kochi.
The finalists were chosen after a comprehensive evaluation by representative judges from Mohua, BVLF, and independent experts in the field of urban design, early childhood development, and behavioral changes.
After the kick-off challenge in November 2020, more than 60 city institutions nationally responded to open calls for proposals to implement environmental level pilot projects to improve their physical and psychological health of infants, toddlers, and their caregivers.
Dilek by the Expert Committee in February 2021 Based on the strength of their proposal, 25 cities received technical assistance and capacity building for the next seven months to show the initial victory, requesting their citizen participation.
Under the challenges of 10 cities winners will receive technical assistance and capacity building to replicate pilots with learning and influence the development plans, regulations and policies on a phase scale.
As part of the proposal, SCTL aims to provide an environment where young children can safely move, play, and connect with nature.
The plan is to redesign their streets and green space and add security measures in the public space.
