Twin Thane-Borivli Tunnel Project Makes Progress

Thane: The ambitious Twin Thane-Borivli Tunnel Project has obtained several traction with Thane Municipal Corporation which proposes to remove reserves of around 34 hectares (HA) land in the ambitions for the project in the coming days.
A recent survey revealed that around 8.4 ha in the Majiwada-Manpa administrative ward is needed to access the Thane-Borivli road, while 25.6 ha is needed for an underground tunnel link.
A proposal has been moved before the Thane General Agency to change the current reservation on the ground, explain the official.
The majority of land is currently intended for botanical and zoological parks, depot transportation of Thane and road development plans.
There are also some housing patches and green zones in the Borivade that need to be changed to fit the project.
Can be remembered that a study of the possibility of an exit point for six lanes highways was carried out several months ago by several institutions, including MMRDA, and is now being executed after being submitted from MSRDC recently.
Officials later said that they were trying to ensure minimal disorders in the housing zone and green along the stretch.
According to the initial plan, the highway, along with a tunnel of 11 km-length, will connect Thane to Manpada and Borivli near Magathane Best Depot, drastically reducing travel time.
The tunnel will be drilled under the Sanjay Gandhi National Park using a tunnel drill machine.
Each of the two tunnels will have three paths for traffic and one for pedestrians.
The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 10,000 Crore.
At present, routes along the Ghodbunder Road turn and need at least two hours in one direction.
