NEW DELHI: The standing committee on information technology has spurred Twitter officials to appear before it on Friday and provide a demonstration on avoidance of abuse of social networking platform.
The committee, led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, has several social networking giants, such as Facebook and Twitter, on topics related to abuse of the programs and defense of taxpayers’ rights.
As per a note of this standing committee meeting June 18, its schedule is to”listen to the perspectives of representatives of Twitter followed closely by signs of agents of electronics on protecting citizens’ rights and avoidance of abuse of social/online news media platforms, such as specific emphasis on women’s safety in the electronic area”.
A senior member stated that there were many offenses on Twitter because harassment of girls were reported many times.
Though the Centre has removed Twitter’s’intermediary’ status, and it has brought it under the purview of Indian legislation, the micro blogging website and also the Centre are at loggerheads on many problems for the last couple of months.
A BJP member stated the celebration will inquire Twitter agents how many reports were banned after the Red Fort protests.
