Chandrapur: Two acid trees are more than 100 years old cut in the Naginabugh region in the city without asking permission from the Chandrapur Municipal Corporation (CMC) tree authority.
Both are listed as inheritance trees.
After environmental lovers cried violating logging, the CMC tree authority filed a criminal complaint against the guilty at the Ramnagar police station.
Officials said clauses in Maharastra (urban areas) prevention and protection of the Tree Law (Amendment), 2021, have maximum Fine provisions of up to RS1 Lakh and can also attract prisons to cut trees illegally.
The President of the NGO Organization Eco-Pro Bandu Dhotre also reached a place after getting information and examining damage to the trees.
“One tree was cut from its base while the others lost all branches and only the remaining stumps.
Dozens of monkeys take refuge in these trees.
The Department of Environment has registered trees as a heritage tree,” said Dhotre.
In the allegations of the Anup Tree Authority Tatiwar said there was no permission sought by logging of this heritage tree.
He said the fallen trees stood in part on the land owned by Gowardhan.
One Missar Prashant signed an agreement to purchase this land to build a house.
“Malekar acts with neighbors and mobilizes people to cut down giant trees.
We have filed a complaint against the mankar and others with Ramnagar police for illegal tree logging,” he said.
