CHENNAI: two members of the organisation Al-Umma, that are serving a prison sentence in Chennai’s Puzhal Central Prison in relation to the 1998 Coimbatore bomb event, also have tested positive for Covid-19 and have now been admitted into the corona ward of Government Stanley Hospital (GSH).
The duo — Umar Farook, 51, along with Zakir Hussain, 52 — had complained of cough and fever for the last few days.
They asked prison superintendent Senthil Kumar to have them examined for Covid-19.
The prison police took them into the GSH to get RT-PCR test.
After the test result came favorable for Covid-19, they had been declared to this corona ward at the hospital.
Their health state was secure, prison officials said.
Enforcement officials suspect the duo may have contracted Covid-19 from several offenders who were changed in prison — two to prison -1 within a workout to decongest prisons.
Officials were still keeping an eye on the offenders to see if a lot of these contracted Covid-19.
