Bhubaneswar: At least two people in Odisha have tested the positive Omicron Covid-19 variant, the first case of the latest version of Coronavirus in the state, officials said on Tuesday.
Bhubaneswar (ILS) Based Life Science Institute confirmed the existence of a variant in two patients after carrying out the sequencing of 12 samples.
Both have a history of traveling to foreign countries – each Nigeria and Qatar, they said.
The Returnee of African countries was fully vaccinated, and stable at the hospital, Cuttack District Covid-19 Nodal officers Umesh Ray said.
All of his contacts have been tested negatively, he added.
Other patients are also stable in hospitals.
Since the rupture of the latest variants, 8,800 people arrive at Odisha from various countries, including 1,600 of “risky” countries, the officials said.
“It is expected that Omicron will go to the country.
However, there is no need to panic because the new variant has mild symptoms in the patient.”
