Greater Noida: Two boys, aged 11 and 13 years, died while others were injured after the concrete slab covered the collapsed channel on them in the larger Mu Noida sector, police said on Wednesday.
Children, police said, were allegedly trying to attract iron booster from the slab when collapsing on Tuesday.
They were pulled out of the debris and taken to the nearest hospital but Nitesh (11), a resident of Ghori Bachhera Village, and Akhil (13), from Kashiram’s colony, surrendered during treatment on Tuesday night.
Akhilesh (11), also a resident of Ghori Bachhera, who had not entered the sewer but stood on the slab when it collapsed, suffered a severe injury in the incident and was still undergoing treatment at a private hospital, police said.
Large Noida Deputy additional Police Commissioner, Vishal Pandey told Toi that the incident occurred around 6pm on Tuesday.
“It seems that the three boys tried to release the reinforcement of the slabs that covered the large sewers along the roadside in the MU sector when it went bankrupt and destroyed them beneath it.
We were told by the locals.
Nitesh and Akhil died during treatment while Akhilesh was still in care , “The officer said, adding that the body was handed over to the family after post-mortem.
No complaints that have been registered so far, he said.
According to the police, several families in the area belonged to a low-income group.
“There are several incidents in the past where children were found to steal reinforcement blades of slabs, which they tried to sell as a memo of money,” said a senior officer of the Dadri Police Station.
On January 11, two workers had died and as others were injured after the building wall under construction collapsed in the 26 Noida sector, police said.
In another incident, two other workers gave up after the building wall under construction collapsed to them in the 2 NOIDA sector on November 15 last year.
