Hyderabad: Sharing the water of the Krishna River has long been a serious bone of dispute between the Telangana and Andhra regions even before the separate Telangana state emerged in 2014.
Simhering disputes over sharing river water increased and even caused Telangana’s tense and telangana relations.
For both Telugu countries, the mighty Krishna is the lifeline – for irrigation needs and drinking water.
Telangana said Mahbubnagar Regency, Nalgonda and Rangeddy, which was considered a drought-prone area, was very dependent on Krishna’s water.
AP said it could not be done without Krishna’s water to the area of Parch Rayalaseema, regions that were prone to drought and water, especially Prakasam and soot districts.
To meet their requirements, Telangana took the irrigation scheme of the Palamuru-Restaeddy (PRLI) elevator to meet the needs of Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda and the District RR, while the AP launched the Lift Lift Rayalaseema (RDIS) scheme and Rajolibanda Diversity Scheme (RDS) working last year.
The trigger was when the AP proposed the Rlis across Krishna and RDS.
Telangana is not only called Rlis and Illegal RDS but also announces it will not approve water allocation 66:34 between AP and Telangana.
This happens to produce hydel power from various projects, which causes more tensions on the Dam site.
Senior irrigation officials said everything began in 2005 when previously cm United AP YS Rajasekhara Reddy increased the capacity of the pothreddadu head regulator to draw 3 TMCFT water through Srisailam backwaters instead of being decided 1 TMCFT.
At that time, leaders from the Telangana region opposed the move.
In this case, the two countries have been in the throat each who complained that the irrigation project was taken without the consent of the center and the KRMB.
The only time the two countries on display with Cararaderie was when Telangana CM KCr invited his colleague AP Jagan Mohan Reddy for the inauguration of the Kaleshwaram project.
But, it was in 2019.
