Dharmapuri: Two men died and 15 others suffered a sustainable injury in a collision involving four trucks near the Ghat Thoppur part of the Bangalore-Salem National Highway in the Dharmapuri Nadu district on Monday night.
The deceased has been identified as RathinaVelu, 30, Edamalai in Srirangam Taluk in the Trichy district and truck driver Siddhaiyan, 49, Ettimangkurichi Village near Edappadi in Salem District.
A total of 12 men involved in cleaning the septic tank traveled to Trichy from Dharmapuri.
Their truck (waste suction truck) developed technical barriers when reaching the Thoppur checkpoint around 11pm on Monday.
A truck loaded with potatoes leading to Avinashi in the Tirupur district of Gujarat crashed into waste suction trucks and fell by his side.
“Two other trucks – large stone trucks and container trucks – crashing into trucks full of potatoes one by one,” said Dharmapuri District Sp C Kaaichelvan, who visited the place.
He said that Boulder-Laden trucks were heading to Puni in the Dindigul district of Krishnagiri District and details for container trucks unknown as drivers managed to escape from the crash point.
Waste suction trucks and potato-loaded trucks fall into the roadside hole after other trucks hit them one by one.
“Rathinavel, a worker in waste suction truck, and truck driver full of potatoes Siddhaiyan died in place,” SP said.
Eleven people in waste suction trucks, one in potato-loaded trucks and three in trucks laden on injury.
Injuries treated at Dharmapuri Medical College and hospital for treatment.
Their condition is said to be normal, the doctor said.
Pradhap, 30, from it near Veeranam in the Salem district, which traveled in the potato-loaded truck, lost his legs when they were destroyed accidentally.
