Letter: Two migrant workers died and 18 others suffered burns and respiratory problems after the fire broke out in the six-storey packaging unit in Vareli under the morning kadodara on Monday morning.
More than 100 workers working in vivah packaging were saved by fire officials during surgery that lasted for almost six hours.
Kadodara Police GIDC has arrested three people including two owners and managers for guilty murder do not amount to murder.
The police said that while the four lower floors of the building were used for packaging and to store raw materials, the top two floors were used as accommodation for unit workers.
According to fire department officials, the fire broke on the ground or the first floor of the building which also had two levels of the basement.
The exact reason for fire is unknown, he added.
Both the deceased was identified as Abdul Kadir Abdul Samad Bharvaliya (23) from Uttar Pradesh and Mohan Kripakant Ameri Jha (38) from Bihar.
The fire officer said that Bharvaliya fell from the third floor and died while trying to escape using a piece of cloth.
Because the fire starts downstairs, it is impossible for workers to use the only ladder in the building.
Jha was trapped in the basement and suffered more than 90% of burns.
He gave up after being transferred to the hospital.
“Workers with small burns and respiratory problems are shifted to hospitals for treatment.
Except for one, all the affected people are dismissed in the afternoon,” said a police officer.
A total of 15 firefighters, including one hydraulic platform and the turntable table ladder used to save the workers trapped on the top floor.
Fire Extinguisher Team Municipal Corporation (SMC), Bardoli and Palsana Enviro Protection Ltd was included in the service to control the fire which began at around 4 in the morning.
Based on the complaint of the police submitted by Elder Jha Basant, the police arrested the owner of Vivah Packaging – Janak Jogani and his brother Shailesh; And the Dinesh Vaghasiya unit manager.
