Pune: The birthday celebration of friends from Nigdi on Thursday night turned tragically when a 25-year-old man and his friend sank in the mine filled with water in Kusgaon near Lonavla, about 50 km from Pune.
Police Lonavla Rural has identified the deceased as Akash Gurav and Virendra Triparhi (23) both from Rupinagar in Nigdi.
The police said that it was Akash’s birthday on Thursday.
Along with the four friends, he came to Lonavla to celebrate.
“At night, they go to the mine in Kusgaon and enter the waters to swim,” said an officer from the Rural Police Lonavla.
The officer said that Akash and Virendra began to sink.
Their friends tried to save them but failed.
They raised the alarm and reminded local residents.
At that time Akash and Virendra had drowned, the officer said.
