Barabanki: Two people were arrested in the Barabanki District Uttar Pradesh with morphine worth more than Rs 2 Crore in the international market, police said on Tuesday.
The arrest was carried out at Croskaghat Railway Crossing in Barabanki-Bahraich Road on Monday night based on intelligence input, they said.
As many as 2.25 kg of morphine, whose value in the international market is estimated at Rs 2.25 Crore confiscated from the defendant, police said, adding Rs 2.10 lakh cash and luxury cars also recovered from their ownership.
The Ramnagar police joint team and the narcotics control bureau arrested Mohd Imran and Wahid Ali, both the residents of Barabanki, police said.
Cases have been submitted against both of them under the relevant parts of narcotics drugs and psychotropic substances (NDPS), they added.
The defendant told the police during the interrogation they used to smuggle contraband goods to Gonda, Bahraich and Balrix and named One Taj Mohammad from Bana as the main drug smugglers, police said.
Barabanki SP Yamuna Prasad has announced the RS 20,000 cash prize for the police team that made arrests, they added.
