Hong Kong: Two Hong Kongers pleaded guilty Thursday to conspire to collude with foreign forces and the next digital founder of Jimmy Lai to endanger national security, local media reported.
In a separate case, local media reported seven pro-democracy activists pleaded guilty to organize and incite others to take part in the unauthorized assembly held in 2019.
This case is part of a vast hard action in revenue differences that agreed in the Chinese region In 2019.
Protests were triggered by concerns that Beijing violated the freedom promised to the former British colony when submitted to Chinese control in 1997.
In the first case, Activist Andy Li and Chan Tsz-wah’s legal assistant pleaded guilty to the conspiracy where they tried to attract International sanctions against Beijing and the Hong Kong government, according to the South China morning newspaper.
Lawyers for the defendants in both cases cannot be contacted for comments and calls to court missed.
Li was one of the 12 Hong Kongers who last year tried to leave Hong Kong by boat and travel to Taiwan Island that was ruled on his own.
They were detained in the sea by the authorities and 10 of them were sentenced to prison in the mainland to cross the border illegally.
Li served seven months in Shenzhen prison before returning to Hong Kong, where he was sent in detention.
Seven activists emerged in court in the second case including Raphael Wong, the former chairman of the Social Democratic political party, and Figo Chan, who led the civil human rights fronts, a group that now disbanded the protest.
“I protested based on the principle of civil disobedience.
One of the key elements of civil dissatisfaction is to accept allegations.
So that’s what we will do later, to confess guilty,” Wong said at that time.
“Another key element is that people who carry out civil utilization actions to know are jailed are only part of the process,” he said.
“We are not worried imprisoned.
Instead, we hope we can achieve democracy after this process.” Local news outlets Ming Pao and stood the news then reported the seventh pleaded guilty.
Beijing responded to 2019 protests by imposing strict new national security law last year which has effectively criminalized many opposition to the government and silencing differences of opinion.
Most of the most prominent city activists, including Joshua Wong and Lai, Media Mogul, are currently behind the bar.
Many of them were required to take part in unauthorized protests in 2019.
Of the seven defendants on Thursday, only Wong was not detained before it appeared in court.
The other six are currently behind the bar after being punished for other violations related to their activism.
