Beijing: China’s worst Coronavirus outbreak in several months has spread to two other parts of the country, said the health authority on Saturday, including the megacity of 31 million people.
The National Health Commission reported 55 new cases in the fields including Fujian Province and Chongqing Municipality, in addition to four provinces and Beijing where the Delta variant outbreak had been reported.
More than 200 infections across the country have been linked to clusters in East Jiangsu Province, where nine cleaners at the international airport in the city of Nanjing are tested positive on July 20.
The Nanjing city authorities ordered all tourist attractions and cultural places not to be open on Saturday, requested by a surge in domestic transmission.
Hundreds of thousands have been locked in Jiangsu Province, while Nanjing has tested all 9.2 million people twice.
The tourist city of Zhangjiajie in Hunan Province, where several cases attended a single theater performance, locked all 1.5 million residents and close all tourist attractions on Friday, according to official notice.
Famous for its striking rock formation, this city is where part of “Avatar” blockbuster is filmed.
In the Changping District of Beijing, where two cases transmitted locally have been found, 41,000 people in nine housing communities are placed under the key Thursday.
China previously bragged about its success in finishing the pandemic inside its border after imposing the world’s first virus locking in the early 2020 when Covid-19 seeped from Wuhan in the city center.
But this month’s plague driven by the Delta variant which spread quickly has thrown the record into danger.
