Coimbatore: The district child protection unit has saved two little girls, who were married by their families, in Mathampatti here on Friday.
In one of the cases, a 17-year-old girl from Mathampatti was forced to marry a 23-year-old man at Semmedu on Thursday.
“Based on the tip, officials with the District Children’s Protection Unit, along with officials of the Department of Welfare of the District Social Visit, conducted an investigation with the member of the girl’s family, which failed to produce a certificate to prove the age of the girl,” said an official source.
In the second case, another girl from the same village married at the age of 17 years.
“He was forced to marry a 25-year-old man on July 29.
His parents also cannot produce any certificate to prove that he is the main.
Consider the safety of the girls, the official of the district child protection unit transferred them to the government’s house,” said the source.
Officials of the Social Welfare Department have filed a complaint to the All-Woman Podanur police to take appropriate legal action.
However, the police were waiting to get a document to confirm the age of the girls.
