Two units check noise to record pollution levels

Gurgaon: The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) installs two temporary noise level monitoring units in DLF Phase 2 and Sector 48 on Wednesday to check the pollution noise during Diwali.
According to environmental rules (protection), 1986, the noise level should not be more than 55 decibels in residential areas, 65 decibels in the commercial area and 75 decibels in the industrial area.
At night, the limit is 45 decibels in residential areas, 55 decibels in the commercial area and 70 decibels in the industrial area.
HSPCB officials said that the unit would help them take steps to curb pollution during Diwali.
“This year, we have installed temporary monitoring stations to record noise levels before and during Diwali.
We have recorded noise levels in DLF Phase 2 and Sector 48 on October 29 and will record the noise level in the same area in 4.
November we will analyze The data set to see the difference, “said Kuldeep Sharma, HSPCB, HSPCB.
However, experts about the quality of noise argue that monitoring noise while during Diwali is not a long-term solution to check pollution in the city.
“This city must have a road map to install a permanent noise monitoring unit for Gurgaon in a sensitive area; near hospitals, schools and homes for parents.
Data can help (related authorities) study parameters, and take steps to reduce noise levels in The area, “said Sachin Panwar, an independent expert in air pollution and noise.
Near sensitive areas such as hospitals, noise levels should not exceed the 45 decibel limit.
Panwar also recommends keeping tabs on air quality.
There was a surge in pollutant level in the past week as an air quality index, the ‘moderate’ last week, is currently ‘very poor’.
According to HSPCB, the noise level in the DLF Phase 2 housing area increased from 66 decibels to 68 decibels during the last year.
Meanwhile, in commercial areas along the MG Road, the noise level increased from 68 to 70 decibels in 2020.
Similar 1-4 hiking decibels was observed in previous years.
“We expect air and voice pollution in the city to be lower this year because there has been a complete ban on crackers.
We have organized workshops to murder and motivate students not to use crackers,” said Kuldeep Singh, regional officers HSPCB, Gurgaon.
