Bengaluru: Two Covid-19 waves may have damaged the city of Bengaluru, but the BBMP has not resolved and submitted a death audit, although it was months since the infection receded.
Audit analyzes death and categorizes them based on age, gender, period of hospitalization and causes, among others.
It will also show whether some people can be saved.
BBMP said it still compiled data, but TOI had studied reliably that even though the team 16 members were formed to conduct an audit had met seven times, he was defective by incomplete data.
The panel consists of an emergency doctor, a population medical officer, community medical expert, Pulama, anesthetic experts and forensic medicine experts, among others, said source.
“They have a list of deaths of cross-verified a month with the causes of deaths listed in a detailed individual case sheet provided by the hospital that treats them,” said the source.
Part of the controlled data accessed by TOI shows a total of 16,305 people died because of Covid-19 in two waves.
While 4,480 died during the first wave, 11,825 which surprised surrendered to infection in the second wave.
“About 5,000 who died were in the age group 65-70.
They died because of shortness of breath, while most of the other deaths were caused by a lack of medical assistance on time,” said a senior BBMP health official.
“In the second wave, cases revolve out of control; Civilities and Civil Agencies failed to handle the situation due to increased death.” Other health officials said the main cause of death was shortness of breath, a late diagnosis and lack of beds, medicines such as remediesivir and medical oxygen.
“Many infected can’t get a hospital bed.
Some dead waiting in the ambulance, and those who claim to be not given enough oxygen support or medical assistance,” the official said.
Gaurav Gupta, Chair of the Commissioner, BBMP, said: “Only preliminary findings are available.
We need to confirm and strengthen the data.
This is a problem for domain experts.
We cannot express anything.
Also, I am not sure whether the audit needs to be available in the domain public.
