New Delhi: Two men were arrested on Sundays for allegedly threatening to attack Jawaharlal Nehru University on Independence Day, in a video uploaded on Facebook, police said.
The defendant has been identified as Vikas (30), which can be heard to make a statement threatening in the alleged inflammatory video, and King Kumar – both residents of Uttam Nagar, they said.

He told the police that he was associated with Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) since 2018.
But the police said that they verified the credentials.

Kumar is the owner of the telephone where the video in JNU was uploaded, they added.
“We received PCR calls from JNU students on Sunday at 1.51 in the morning at the Vasant Kunj (North) Police Station which stated that the video had been uploaded on the Facebook page of the ‘Mahakal Youth Brigade’ allege that the university would be attacked,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Power) Ingit Pratap Singh.
After receiving PCR calls, police personnel were deployed in simple clothes at all gates.
Some other calls were also accepted in this matter, police said.
“Students came to the police station and filed complaints.
The Jawaharlal Nehru University ‘Union Student (Jnutu) Office Bearers wrote the same complaints where they accused that the video promotes disharmony and hostility, using inflammatory language and also openly issued a physical injury threat,” DCP said.
The video on the page looks and heard and a case is listed under Section 153A (promoting hostility between different groups with religious reasons, race, place of birth, etc.), 295A (intentional and dangerous actions, intended to make angry feelings), 505 ( Suduru statement for public damage) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) from the Criminal Procedure Code.
Further investigations are underway, police said.
