Ahmedabad: When the Sati case in Gujarat – Amreli Regency is right – skyrocketing from 0 to 13 this year, he increases the fear that the practice is abolished where a widow sacrificed himself in his husband’s pyre again.
The race to find out the cause of carrying assistance to officials when “SPREE” was tracked to the data entry error made by Portable LRD.
The official website of the House Department stated that there were no cases of Sati in Gujarat between 2015 and 2020.
However, thanks to ‘typo’ that were consistent but wrong between January and November, CID’s crime records showed 2-3 cases listed under the Sati Commission (Prevention) Act almost every month in Amreli (see box).
While all other districts reported zero cases, Amreli registered 13 cases.
The police supervisor (Amreli) Nirlipt Rai said, “We asked this problem and had found this happening because of an error at the data entry level.” LRD’s incisively entered the crime figures under the wrong head.
I am still looking for a fact search report.
We have not registered a single Sati case in Amreli.
“Preliminary requests show that some cases related to suicide reduction (part 306 IPC) are mistakenly registered under sati prevention law.” DGP (CID CRIME) Anil Pratham said he was on leave and did not realize this problem.
However, Director General of Police Ashish Bhatia said, “There is no example of sati in Gujarat, but if the data has been included in the public domain, we will ask and correct this error.”
