UEFA has doubled its prize funds for the 2022 European Championship to 16 million euros ($ 18.75 million) with an increase in guaranteed payment for 16 qualified teams.
The European Football Management Agency said in a statement on Thursday that it had also agreed to the introduction of the program that would see a team that released players for euro valued with payments from 4.5 million euros.
The decision was announced after the UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Chisinau, Moldova on Wednesday and the Continental Government Agency added that the details of the financial distribution scheme would soon be available.
Women’s tournament, which was originally scheduled for this year but was postponed 12 months due to the Covid-19 pandemic, set to take place in the UK from 6-31 2022.
UEFA also agreed to change the model of payment of its solidarity for a team of men who did not participate in the club competition in cycle 2021- 24, with complete details will be announced soon.
It added that there would be an increase in shares for all associations outside the top five – English, Spanish, German, Italian and French.
The move came after UEFA had to fend off the efforts of the 12 top European club earlier this year to form a separating European Super League.
Nine Clubs – Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid – supported and reached an agreement with UEFA.
Changes were made for the UEFA Champions League competition with new format approval from 2024-25 with 36 clubs and teams that will play four more matches.
UEFA said his latest decision reaffirmed his strong financial commitment to all European football.
It is said that 4% solidarity for non-participating clubs – 140 million euros based on revenues projected 3.5 billion euros – will be driven by 30% of the income generated by club competition above 3.5 billion euros to a maximum of 35 million euros.
“As a consequence, a total of 175 million euros is expected to be available from competition income for non-participating clubs, compared to 130 million euros in the 2018-21 cycle,” UEFA added in Thursday’s statement.
“And shares intended for five non-non-non-non-associations will increase to 132.5 million euros (around 50 million euros more than the previous scheme, representing a more than 60% increase.”
