LONDON: Fatal stabbing from British parliamentarians David Amess is a terrorist incident with the possibility of relationships with Islamic extremism, police said on Saturday, because the government ordered the review of safety measures to protect lawmakers.
Conservative MP veteran David Amess, 69, was talking to voters in a church in the small town of Leigh-on-Sea East of London when he was stabbed until Friday.
The police said they arrested a 25-year-old suspect and was investigating “potential motivation related to Islamist extremism”.
Fatal stabbing has been “declared a terrorist incident, with an investigation led by the terrorism police against,” police said in a statement.
Some British media outlets, quoted sources, reported that the suspect was believed to be a British citizen with Somalia’s legacy.
Sun tabloid reported that the attacker stabbed him several times in front of two female staff, before sitting and waiting for the police to arrive.
The police said they believed the attacker acted himself and they searched two addresses in the London area.
PM Boris Johnson visited the crime scene to pay homage on Saturday, placing a bouquet of flowers outside the church with opposition leaders, Keep Labor leader Starmer in a rare union performance.
Local residents including members of the Muslim community also came, stacking bouquets next to the police recording.
