LONDON: The British government extends the Covid-19 booster program to young people Monday, hoping to prevent a wave of fresh infections during cooler winter.
The combined committee of vaccination and immunization says people aged 40 to 49 will also be eligible for a six-month vaccine shooting after their initial shot.
People aged 50 years and above have qualified.
The decision came after a senior British official told Sky News that the vaccination program offered the best opportunity to prevent returning restrictions during Christmas.
“It’s in our hands,” Oliver Dowden’s conservative party chief said.
“If you get a booster when the call comes, it is the biggest defense wall that we have against Covid.”
