Ulfa-I Sovereignty Call Must be Spoken Agenda: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati: In the first by Assam CM, Himanta Buswa Sarma on Wednesday said the ULFA-I core request would be sovereignty to be discussed somewhere in the peace process.
This was for the first time since the birth of Ulfa in 1979 that a state minister had dared to discuss ULFA’s core requests with participants.
Sarma’s predecessors have chosen military options or have avoided overcoming this problem.
However, former PM Manmohan Singh in 2005 has announced that the center is ready to discuss all “ulfa” core problems “.
However, the peace process does not take off.
Sarma said someone needed “a new approach” (for ULFA problems) and “balance must be made between the perimeter of the constitution and clothing demand” for sovereignty.
“I think their core problems must be discussed at a time,” he added.
While upholding and protecting sovereignty, unity and integrity of India is one of the fundamental tasks that is enshrined in the Constitution, Ulfa (i) ready to have a peace dialogue only if the core request of its sovereignty is discussed.
Sarma said Ulfa was born more than four decades back “for a certain reason” but the situation in the state has been completely changed over the years.
“During this long period, the situation of Assam has changed a lot …
the problems that exist in 1984-85 have now changed their character completely.
Demographic Assam, economic and social aspects are very different for then and now.
I think we must respect Emotions of people and straighten out with today’s situation and for it if we can change our mindset and thought process, we can move forward with a new view.
“Sarma also welcomed the extension of Ulfa (I) from the unilateral ceasefire with three months and referred to as a positive movement.
He previously said the head of the paresh Ulfa (i) has said in the media that the discussion must be held in sovereignty but on the other hand whether it is PM or CM or the Minister, he has taken a serious oath to protect Indian sovereignty and “under this situation, both splits Parties are at the opposite pole.
” He then suggested finding a middle ground.
