Berlin: Loated gasoline finally reached the end of the road, the UN Environment Office said Monday, after the last country in the world used it stopped selling highly toxic fuels.
Algeria stopped the sale of leading gas last month, pushing the United Nations Environmental Agency to declare the “official end” its use in the car, which has been blamed for various human health problems.
“Enforcement of a successful ban on leading gasoline is a big milestone for our global health and our environment,” said Executive Director of UNEP, Ekuer Andersen, said in a statement.
Oil contains Tetraethylead, a tin form, first sold almost 100 years ago to improve engine performance.
It was widely used for decades until the researchers found that it could cause heart disease, stroke and brain damage.
Studies quoted UNEP show that gas bought causes intellectual disorders in children and millions of premature deaths.
Most of the rich countries began to remove fuel in the 1980s but were still widely used in low and medium-sized countries to 2002, when u.n.
Launch a global campaign to abolish it.
Bertimbal gas is still used in flight fuel for small aircraft.
