Ranchi: The Minister of Transportation of the State of Champai Soren on Thursday led a political delegation to the Governor of Ramesh Bais to demand the inclusion of separate Sarna religious codes.
Parliament members handed over a memorandum to the governor.
The delegation consists of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) legislators in Birua, Stephen Marandi and Congress Mlaas Rajesh Kaschap and Bandhu Tirkey and members of several tribal rights groups.
BJP, the main opposition party in the country, is not part of the delegation.
The government of Mahagatbandhan led by JMM has increased his voice to support separate religious codes for Sarna faith tribes.
On November 11 last year, the Jharkhand Assembly unanimously passed through the resolution of the house that was looking for a separate code for the adivascist who practiced Sarna’s religious faith and sent it to the center.
In September this year, Chairman of the Minister of Hemant Soren had met home Minister Amit Shah with a delegation of all parties and demanded the inclusion of Sarna into the religious column of the upcoming census for a list of the national population.
Shah has rejected the proposal.
Hemant will meet Bais on Friday afternoon.
