Underground utility info will be online soon

Gurgaon: Residents may soon have access to data on all underground utilities, including gas pipes, telecommunications cables and power, placed by various private institutions or operators, on the Portal Otoran Development of Gurugram Metropolitan (GMDA).
While the authority is set to buy a radar machine (GPR) that is centrifaging and updating it on the Onemap portal.
On Tuesday, the Chief Executive Officer GMDA (CEO) Sudhir Rajpal said that the authority was trying to buy a GPR machine, it would also direct all agents who were looking for right permissions (rows) to map the utility and share information.
“Using this information, geographical information system data (GIS) will be prepared and then this will be mapped on the OnemP portal.
Data will help ensure that various institutions do not interfere with their respective jobs, and there is no damage to the installation,” RajPal said.
He added that the Head of the Infrastructure Engineer Division I and II had been told to get an image on the utility set by various institutions.
Toi has reported Monday that GMDA will employ and, finally buy, GPR engine.
According to officials, utilities will be mapped and updated on the portal including gas pipes, CNG lines, telecommunications cables and electrical lines.
“The advantage of having everything available on one public portal is that every time a plan is made for a certain area, there will be clarity about what all utilities have been there.” Said a senior GMDA official.
