New Delhi: 750 meter underpass construction at the Ashram intersection in Mathura Road is delayed again and the deadline has been driven by two months, officials of the Department of Public Works (PWD) involved in the project on Saturday.
According to officials, the revised deadline from the project is now August 31.
The previous June 30th.
The delay will add to the triplication of thousands of commuters that depend on stretches and residents living nearby.
Ashram Chowk is an important link that connects Central and South Delhi with the cities of Satellite Noida and Faridabad.
Junction connects Mathura Road and Ring Road (connecting the Lajpat Nagar-Sarai Kale Khan and DND Flyover).
Since the construction of underpass began in December 2019, a major jammed had become common in Mathura Road and Ashram flyover during the top traffic hours.
This is the third time the project deadline has been pushed.
The foundation stone was placed by the chairman of the Minister of Arvind Kejriwal on December 24, 2019.
The initial deadline of the project was December 2020, which was extended until March 202 March and then further pushed to June 30, 2021.
The estimated project costs were Rs 78 Crore.
, “The project deadline has been pushed to August 31 from June 30.
The delay occurs due to lack of workers during the second wave of Covid-19 as workers go to their hometown,” said a senior PWD official.
PWD officials said that currently the tunnel construction work just below the intersection of Ashram was being carried out, while the work on the underpass ramps was on the last leg.
They added that the transfer of traffic at the intersection of the ashram is likely to be relegated in September.
“We are diligent in working to complete projects within a certain period of time.
Underpass tends to be ready for use in September this year,” said an official.
At present, PWD has extended the barricade to the main intersection center and also simultaneously takes space on the side of the Mathura road for the construction of the sidewalk, leaving less space for vehicle movements.
Traffic police data show that around three lakh vehicles cross the intersection of the ashram every day during the top traffic hours.
After the project is complete, it will benefit from commuting taking a busy ashram intersection and will relieve the journey to Sarita Vihar, Standards and Faridabad from Ito.
Traffic infrastructure and integrated transportation (Planning and Engineering and Engineering) (UTTIPEC) – APEX Body to approve infrastructure projects in the city – have agreed to underpass in January 2016 for signal-free trips from Nizamuddin to New Colony friends at Mathura Road.
It must be completed in March 2018, but the project was delayed due to the desire of financial approval.
Financial approval was given by the Delhi Government Expenditure Financing Committee (EFC) in November 2018.
