Pune: 42-year-old public civil engineering diploma holders killed his sick mother (76) before hanging herself to death in their flat in the Akshay Society in Dhankawadi around 2am and 7 am on Saturday.
Police said Ganesh Manohar Fartade, who was not married, and his mother, Nirmala, a BP patient, sugar, and knee disease, lived in 1 BHK rented flat in the community for the past 12 years.
His father had died before, and his two aunt lived in the Erandwane area and Salisbury Park.
Fartade lost his job as an engineer with a private company in March 2021 and he struggled to find a new job.
He experienced deep financial problems after suffering losses in stock market transactions and found themselves greatly indebted, police said.
Frustrated by his daily struggle to survive and the cost of his mother’s treatment, Fartade compiled a record that explained the reason behind his drastic action and posted the same thing on the social messaging platform for his aunt at the police around 2:45 a.m., the police said.
His aunt saw a message around 7am when he got up and reminded another relative.
Another aunt from the salade park from Salisbury rushed to her flat and lifted an alarm to realize that the flat was locked from inside.
The police, called on the site, broke the door and found Nirmala lying in the bedroom with a rope tied on his neck and plastic bag covering his face.
The answer was found hanging from the ceiling hook in the bedroom.
The investigation revealed that the jaguan gave excess treatment to his mother to calm him before freezing it with a plastic bag and strangling him with a rope, the police said.
“We have recovered cellphones used to post notes and have recorded their relatives’ statements and other witnesses,” said a police officer Sahakarnagar to Ti.
Incidental death cases have been registered and further investigation.
