Islamabad: Visiting the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi said here that the international community must continue to be involved with the Afghan Taliban.
Overcoming a press direction in Islamabad, the top official said UNHCR was involved with the temporary Taliban government in Afghanistan about humanitarian issues, urging the world to do the same, report the Xinhua news agency.
“Taliban expressed the desire that humanitarian assistance was launched as soon as possible to the country, because indeed, and we saw it himself, the condition was very difficult.” He said Afghanistan had needed financial assistance and when the time passing by “the situation was very desperate, everything needed.
Food, medicine, shelter, and other first life needs”.
He said if UNHCR was supported and resources were adequately, it would be able to increase humanitarian assistance.
“It is important that the international community finds the direction needed (and) the methods needed to ensure the function of Afghanistan.” If there is a collapse of public services, for example, such as health, or education, and if the country stops to do it function, this will trigger a crisis that is far greater than humanity, “Grandi added.
Speaking of new waves of people moved internally in Afghanistan , he said about half a million people have been transferred by conflict recently because of the battle in their area.
However, there was no entry of refugees to neighboring countries including Pakistan.
He praised Pakistan for facilitating humanitarian operations in Afghanistan, said that during his visit to Afghanistan , he received several trucks of aid from Pakistan.
“This is very important, whether it is very important, whether it is important whether Pakistani donations, but also international donations that come here, we need to use Pakistan to fly people in and out, as usual, Pakistan will play AM portant support role for humanitarian operations at Afghanistan.
I am very grateful for that.
