UNHRC called for humanitarian assistance for 3.5 million Afghans to avoid hunger

Geneva (Switzerland): The UN Human Rights Council has appealed to increase humanitarian support to 3.5 million including 700,000 from 2021 which was moved due to conflict in Afghanistan, the UN body said in a statement.
Unhcc spokesman Babar Baloch said on Friday that around 23 million people, or 55 percent of the population, faced extreme starvation levels – almost nine million of them were at risk of hunger.
UNHCR has helped around 700,000 displaced people throughout the country in 2021, majority since mid-August.
Every week, the agency helps nearly 60,000 people, according to the statement.
“But when we reach thousands of people, we find thousands of people who need humanitarian aid”, said Baloch, begging “more resources for the most vulnerable”.
He noted that “a single mother without a shelter or food for their children”, older refugees go to care for the grandchildren of orphans, and people who care for loved ones with special needs.
Reminding the Human Rights Board of various resolutions about the safety of journalists adopted in recent years, experts called for accelerated visas, evacuation, and open borders for those who want to leave Afghanistan.
After the Taliban took over, the economic crisis deteriorated with the freezing of Afghan assets and lack of humanitarian assistance for the country’s society.
Afghanistan faces the burden of a severe economic crisis, reporting tolonews.
“The Islamic Emirates have no good relations with the United Nations and therefore the United Nations is worried about assistance and the pressure must be directly submitted to vulnerable people,” said a university instructor.
