Beirut: More than 4 million people in Lebanon can face critical water shortages or fully disconnected in the coming days, UNICEF warns, because of the severe fuel crisis.
Lebanon, with a population of 6 million, is at a low point in two years of financial destruction, with a lack of fuel oil and gasoline which means extensive blackouts and long lines in several gas stations that are still operating.
“Vital facilities such as hospitals and health centers have been without access to safe water due to lack of electricity, placing life at risk,” said Executive Director Unicef Henrietta Fore in a statement.
“If four million people are forced to use unsafe and expensive water sources, public health and cleanliness will be compromised, and Lebanon can see increased diseases transmitted through water, in addition to the surge in Covid-19 cases,” he said, “he said,” he said, “he said,” he said, “he said,” he said, “he said,” he said, “he said,” he said, “he said,” he said, “he said,” he said, “he said,” he said, “he said,” he said, “he said,” he said, “he said,” he said, “he said,” he said, “he said,” he said, “he said,” he said, “he said,” he said, “he said,” he said, “he said,” he said, “he said, “He said,” he said, “he said,” he said, “he said, urging the formation of a new government to overcome the crisis.
