Union Jal Shakti Minister told us Karnataka could not build a Mekedatu Dam: Duraimurugan

Chennai: Minister of Water Resources Tamil Nadu S Duraimurugan on Friday quoted the Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that the Government of Karnataka could not build a Mekedatu dam because he had not fulfilled the rules for preparation for detailed project reports.
Duraimurugan spoke to reporters at Tamil Nadu House, after leading the Delegation of the Tamil Nadu legislative party to convey to Shekhawat, the state opposition against the Dam Mekedatu.
“Minister of Jal Shakti said Karnataka could not build a dam.
The reason is that the Karnataka government has not fulfilled one of the rules set for preparation for detailed project reports.
The state must get approval from Riparian countries, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry, and Water Management Authority Cauvery and the Central Air Commission for the Center allowed the implementation of the DPR, “Duraimurugan said.
The delegation included former Minister of Aiadmk D Jayakumar, the floor leader PMK G K K Chop Vaiko, leader VCK Tholl Thirumavalavan, Secretary of State CPM K Balakrishnan and MMK Leader MM Jawahirlah.
Duraimurugan said the TN delegation had presented a round resolution which was forwarded at a meeting of all parties led by Minister M K Stalin’s head on the implementation of the Mekedatu Dam project.
The delegation told the Shekhawat that the intention of his visit was to convey that the center did not support the dam at all.
Duraimurugan said Delhi’s goal was successful.
“The Union Minister said the Karnataka government had not followed any terms and conditions.
In contrast, the country sent a detailed project report on their own and sent (to the center) for approval,” TN Minister said.
Duraimurugan also quotes Shekhawat as a denial of promises made to anyone about approval for Karnataka for dam construction.
The Minist of Union Jal Shakti told the ministry’s inability delegation to appoint the chairman for the Cauvery Water Management Authority despite advertising twice for candidates who qualified.
The ministry again advertises certain relaxed norms.
The Vaiko MDMK leader told reporters that BJP’s double standard in the center of the Mekedatu Dam plan would be raised in the upcoming parliamentary session.
The leader of the senior Congress of a Gupupan said that Karnataka’s offer to build a dam was a violation of the Supreme Court and the international principles of sharing river waters between countries.
