New Delhi: Minister of Trade and Industry and India G-20 Sherpa Piyush Goyer participated in a two-day G20 Sherpas meeting on September 15-16 in a virtual format, the External Ministry (MEA) said in a statement on Friday.
“This is the first G20 meeting attended by Piyush Goyal since his appointment as G20 Sherpa.
The meeting was chaired by Ambassador Luigi Mattiolo, G20 Sherpa Italia, who welcomed Pyush Goyal to the family of G-20,” the statement added.
“The agenda of the meeting was to discuss and exchange views on the draft declaration of Rome, which would be adopted by the leaders of the G-20 in the Rome Summit on October 30-31 2021,” he added.
The main theme of the declaration is the health and recovery of Covid-19 pandemic, sustainable development, environment, climate and energy, gender equality, education, labor, work, tourism, culture and economy.
Sherpa thanked Italy for his leadership in the G-20 this year and for his efforts in preparing strong documents for leaders who cover various themes.
Highlighting India’s progress on each of these problems, he said that New Delhi will play a constructive role in negotiating a significant and balanced statement for leaders.
