The University of Delhi (DU) continues to remain at the center of discussion for reasons including 100% cut-off acceptance, the implementation of a four-year undergraduate program (FYUP) from 2022-23, and a severe faculty crisis.
In an interview with
Time of education, Yogesh Singh, the newly appointed vice chancellor from DU threw light forward to the university.
This year, DU witnessed Cent Percent Cut-Offs for various courses across college.
Is this for the best interests of students and if not, what’s the alternative?
Safe! You have managed to throw your voteogin to see results in various ways to understand this phenomenon.
The fact is still that DU is a prestigious educational institution, with lakh students who submit a request in every year.
High cut-off is just a means to ensure that only the best of what makes it a university.
At the same time, if the high cut-off causes the maximum acceptance of students from one education council, it is a concern.
The Indian education system has various country boards, and each has its own assessment and marking system.
We need to find an alternative way to receive students other than the right-based tradition route to be fair for all educational boards.
This concern has been raised and the committee has been formulated to learn and share recommendations in this regard.
I feel that the first step is to find a method to normalize the sign and build parity among all boards.
Alternative is possible to hold an incoming test.
We expect committee suggestions in a month and will make the final decision.
With the Implementation of FYUP in DU from 2022-23, what changes / additions can students expect?
With a student-centric approach, a new fyup is different from what is implemented in 2013 at DU.
The key to the new program is to have an open and flexible curriculum.
Some discussion points have begun in this matter.
The most important thing is to create an academic bank.
Du students must be able to move in college if they want to pursue new courses or study any courses under certain lecturers in other colleges.
The credit they get in their chosen colleges will be added to their existing credit bank.
Also, the teacher must start experimenting.
For example, Flip Classroom is a concept being discussed.
In this case, the teacher will give students short video about this problem a few days before the class.
In this way, students come to class with basic knowledge and can learn from the next discussion.
Preparing the right physical infrastructure to help students in the modified scenario is a sustainable process.
The university is ready to make changes and additional buildings and other requirements as needed.
Until now, providing the right technology support to all stakeholders is the only hiccup in achieving all these objectives.
Your view of dealing with the current faculty crisis at DU?
This is a priority for us, for which advertising that has floated and college has also been ordered to work towards faculty recruitment in mission mode.
The process has also begun to recruit the principal for universities that have no leadership as it is now.
Changes must definitely be witnessed in this case within one year.
As recently seen in DU with changes in the Honor Syllabus of English Language, Tweaks in the curriculum generally witnesses of commotion.
Your view in this matter?
NEP 2020 demands change, but they must be done by remembering some important things.
Decisions about such changes are only located in each department.
However, most department members must rise with the proposed change.
Also, changes must be harmonized with our national interests.
