Kochi: Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat), which has won the Chancellor award for the best universities, has been quoted as a highlight of nine major universities in Kerala.
According to QS World University ranking 2021, Cusat has 111 scientists who have more than 500 quotes.
Of these, 50 has been included in the highest list of universities, with all of them having a H index more than 13 and 39 faculties have more than 15 hindex.
Interestingly, a large number of these rankings by young people and middle-level faculties with most assistant professors.
In the case of the number of scientists in the faculty, Kerala University has 37, Calicut has 33 and the University of MG has 21.
The number is relatively less among newer universities such as Kufos, Kvasu and Kalam University.
The Academic Scientific Index is calculated based on seven papers per member of the faculty indexed in Scopus in the last five years or eight quotes per paper indexed at six years.
According to Cusat officials, data from 2017-2021, around 2,400 papers were published with 8,625 quotes.
“Each of these rankings has a separate methodology but, largely depends on the data available in public spaces.
Most institutions involved in ranking data from the university website.
They also check individual profiles uploaded by academics and institutions on various platforms , “said Baby Chakrapani, Director, Center for Science-in-Society (C-SIS), Cochin University.
Data shows that younger faculties have been more enthusiastic and update their publications on their own Google Cendekia profiles or other professional websites.
