New York: The UN Security Council has condemned the announcement by the Turkish Cyprus authority to reopen parts of Varosha for potential removal.
“The Security Council revealed his deep regret regarding this unilateral action that went against the resolution and previous statement,” UNSC said in a statement on Friday.
The UN Security Council then reaffirmed Varosha’s status described in relevant resolutions that consider efforts to resolve any part of Varosha by people in addition to those who are unacceptable and call to transfer the United Nations Area.
The Security Council further called for a direct reversal of this action and the reversal of all steps taken at Varosha since October 2020.
This happened after the leader of the North Turkish Cyprus Republic, Ersin Tatar, on Tuesday it has announced that the segment of Varosha will be de-military and local residents will be able to register to get property.
Some countries, including France, Israel, England and the US, have condemned Turkish move.
