Meerut: The police instilled a murder accused of 26 years.
Shahnawaz Ali, also wanted in 13 other cases, had escaped after securing a guarantee from the High Court and living in Jammu and Kashmir, selling socks and wool scarves in the local market.
He was taken back to Saharanpur on Friday.
SP City (Saharanpur) Rajesh Kumar said that Shahnawaz had killed someone named Ahmed Ali, who was his own aide, in 1991.
He was immediately arrested.
“The police managed to restore crime weapons and gathered enough evidence against him.
Chargesheet was filed in court in two months.
After a three-year trial, a local court in Saharanpur gave a life imprisonment to the defendant,” Kumar added.
During the trial, Shahnawaz had undergone four years in prison, from 1991 to 1995.
His lawyers apply guarantees in Allahabad HC in 1995 from where he managed to get the same but in conditions appear before the court, whenever needed.
“The defendant, however, took advantage of guarantees and escaped.
When he did not appear to hear for several months, the court issued an ordinary warrant for him.
The police also placed Rs 25,000 on his head,” said the senior police.
“We caught it after a tip-off and he had been sent to the trial detention,” said the city of SP, added that more parts would be added against it in FIR.
