UP Board Exam Results: Students asked to share ideas on formula for awarding marks

LUCKNOW: The UP secondary education department on Monday held deliberations with representatives of government, unaided and private schools, and parents’ associations to frame modalities and formula for awarding marks to UP Board classes 10 and 12 students whose examinations have been cancelled in the wake of Covid pandemic.

The department has also invited suggestions from students and public in this regard.

The meeting held via video conferencing was presided over by additional chief secretary, secondary education, Aradhana Shukla.

Jawahar Singh Rathore, principal of Sarvodaya Inter College, Fatehpur, recommended including marks of class 9 annual exams and class 10 half-yearly and pre-board exams to calculate the average score for class 10 students.
Atmaram, president of parents’ association, Fatehpur, though asked the government to drop the marks of class 10 half-yearly exams.
Jiyarat Hussain, principal of Hindu Muslim Inter College, Ghazipur, suggested that students should be given the chance to appear for the examinations.
“If students feel unsatisfied and desire for improvement, they should be allowed to take the examinations.
For this, a government inter college in each district can be made as exam centre,” he said.
Ramchandra Shukla, principal of Mahendra Technical Inter College, Chandauli, was of the opinion that pre-board examinations should be given more weightage while deciding the final marks of students, be it of class 10 or 12.
Sukhpal Singh Tomar, principal of Hansnagar Inter College, Ghaziabad, said students who failed to appear for pre-board or half-yearly exams (in class 10 and 12) should be given minimum pass marks.
The additional chief secretary said a final decision on the formula will be announced soon.
She ordered continuation of online classes till schools reopen.
District inspector of schools have been asked to establish contact with school heads and supervise the progress of online classes.
