LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh on Thursday joined the list of states that cancelled the class 12 state board examinations to ward off coronavirus infections.
The decision was taken by the chief minister Yogi Adityanath after discussions with deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma, who also heads the secondary education department.
Over 26.1 lakh students had registered for the class 12 UP board exams this year.
The class 12 exams of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) were cancelled on Tuesday.

Putting safety of students’ first, Sharma said, “For the first time in 100 years of UP board, exams for both class 10 and 12 have been cancelled.”

This year, in its 100th year, the UP board, said Sharma has devised a formula for promotion of students.
For class 12 students, an average of their marks obtained in class 10 and 11 exams will be tabulated.
In case the students didn’t appear for the class 11 exams last year, marks of class 12 pre-board examinations will be taken into account, Sharma said.

He added that students will also be given an option to appear for improvement/back paper examinations in case where they will not be satisfied with the marks awarded to them.
“Students can appear in the improvement examinations in one or all subjects and no fee will be charged from them,” Sharma said.
The improvement exams will be planned only when the situation will become normal.
The marks obtained by students in improvement exams will be the final marks awarded to them.
Likewise for class 10 exams, an average of class 9 marks and marks obtained by students in half-yearly and pre-board examinations of class 10 will be taken into account.
In class 10, 29.9 lakh candidates had registered.
